If your child is nearsighted (myopic) there’s finally something you can do besides getting thicker glasses every year.
Dr. Julie Lam is a member of the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control. She focuses on preventative eye care and treats kids with myopia (nearsightedness) using an alternative treatment method to glasses and traditional soft contact lenses.
When you and your child visit Eye Care North, our doctor will perform a comprehensive evaluation and recommend a personalized treatment plan.
This treatment plan is specifically targeted to slow or halt your child’s myopia from getting worse.
In the video below, Dr. Noel Brennan explains that with myopia increasing significantly in children, there will be an explosion of myopia-related eye disease (Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Cataracts and Retinal Detachment). He goes on to say there is no safe amount of myopia.
Glaucoma, macular degeneration, and retinal detachment are associated with myopia and can all cause permanent vision loss and/or blindness.
Myopia can be controlled and corrected with Gentle Vision Shaping System (otherwise known as GVSS or Orthokeratology). GVSS is a technology that gently reshapes the cornea with custom fit, high oxygen permeable contact lenses worn only during sleep. GVSS has been shown in studies to control the worsening of myopia by 32-100% (with the average being around 43% control).
Ask our doctor if Gentle Vision Shaping System may be right for you or your child.
